My research interest is to study human social dynamics on the web
via an interdisciplinary approach involving Computer Science,
Social Sciences, and Psychology. Leveraging the interplay of people,
content and network features on social networks, I model social
behavior of user intent and engagement in online citizen sensor communities
to help design a cooperative system between citizens and organizations,
with use-case of crisis response. I
have recently started work on another social good problem for
curbing gender-based violence, via modeling of societal beliefs to
inform policy design.
My technical interest is to merge top-down and bottom-up computing approaches by employing domain semantics and guidance from offline behavioral knowledge to enhance statistical methods to understand online user behavior from unstructured, large-scale Social and Web data.
Studying real-world problems
related to online human social dynamics (engagement, intent, influence, coordination, etc.) in social network communities by leveraging models with behavioral knowledge from psychology (Levins verbs, Social Identity & Cohesion, etc.). I have worked on Intent Mining, Matching, Expert Detection, Community Evolution, and User Engagement analysis in large-scale unstructured data from social media. My research has key applications in improving crisis coordination and the understanding of online user behavior.
from the local to international level, for interdisciplinary guidance in addition to Prof. Sheth (Semantic Web), including Prof. Valerie Shalin (Cognitive Science), Prof. John Flach (Cognitive Systems), & Prof. T.K. Prasad (Algorithm Design) at WSU, Prof. Srinivasan Parthasarthy at OSU (Networks and Data Mining), Dr. Meenakshi Nagarajan at IBM Research (Social Computing), Dr. Patrick Meier (Humanitarian Coordination) & Dr. Carlos Castillo (Crisis Computing) at QCRI, and Dr. Fernando Diaz at Microsoft Research (Matching models).
Learning via adaptability to the problem at hand is my biggest skill. Due largely to interdisciplinary PhD research, my work has spanned a variety of problems.
