			<title>Ohio Center of Excellence</title>
			<link>http://knoesis.wright.edu/news/#1269962375</link>
<description>On February 19, Governor Ted Strickland and Eric Fingerhut, Chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, recognized Wright State University’s Center of Excellence in Knowledge-Enabled Computing (Kno.e.sis) as an Ohio Center of Excellence. Kno.e.sis uses the latest technology in semantic computing and Web 3.0 to translate massive amounts of data into meaningful information. Example uses of the Center's research include making sense out of millions of Tweets related to an event such as an earthquake, analyzing billions of observations from thousands of sensors to study a storm or a military mission, or integrating many databases for streamlining access to medical records. Dr. Amit Sheth, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering and LexisNexis Ohio Eminent Scholar, serves as the Center’s Director.

Kno.e.sis has one of the largest academic research groups in Semantic Web/3.0 that is pioneering new techniques in knowledge- and semantic-enabled computing. Its research leads to development of knowledge services for increasing competitiveness of industry in the region and the state, including IT/data management (social and sensor Webs, services/cloud computing), e-Science (esp. bio/health sciences) and defense. Center's fifteen faculty members have published over 1,000 papers and have over 2,000 citations per faculty (well over 30,000 total), support 45 researchers (mainly PhD students), direct 12 labs, have approx. $8.7 million in research funds and have received $45 million in research support. </description>
